Why is choosing the right swimsuit so important?
Choosing the perfect swimsuit is quite a challenge. The key step is to measure your body accurately. This will help you avoid disappointment and ensure you get a swimsuit that perfectly highlights your figure. In this article, you will learn how to take measurements correctly, which measurements are most important, and how to use them when choosing a swimsuit size. It is important to choose the right size of swimsuit by paying attention to detailed body measurements and comparing the measurements with our size chart.
Why are accurate measurements so important?
A well-chosen swimsuit can significantly affect your comfort and confidence, while a poorly chosen swimsuit can cause discomfort and negatively affect your figure. Accurate measurements will help you choose the perfect swimsuit – both aesthetically and functionally.
How to measure your body to choose the perfect swimsuit?
Before choosing a swimsuit, it is worth checking your measurements and comparing them with the size chart. Here it is: key measurements, that will help you find the model best suited to your needs:
- Bust circumference – Measure at the widest point, preferably on the skin or in thin underwear.
- Circumference under bust – important when choosing underwired models and one-piece swimsuits.
- Waist circumference – Measure at the narrowest point of your waist to find the style that best suits your preferences.
- Hip circumference – important when choosing bikini bottoms or a one-piece swimsuit that goes over the hips.
Valuable tips for measuring your body
- Take measurements directly on the skin or in thin underwear.
- Stand in a neutral, upright position.
- When in doubt, it is better to round up the dimensions.
Accurate measurements will ensure that your swimsuit is comfortable to wear.
Supporting illustration
Below you will find a graphic representation of the places that need to be measured. The illustration will help you position the tape measure correctly during measurements.
How to measure your body correctly?
Measure your bust, underbust, waist and hips to find the right size swimsuit.
To take your measurements, you will need a tape measure and a mirror. Make sure you stand up straight and do not suck in your stomach when measuring – only then will the results be accurate.
- Bust circumference
Measure the circumference of the bust at its widest point:
- Stand up straight with your shoulders relaxed.
- Wrap the tape measure around your chest, ensuring it is parallel to the floor.
- The measuring tape should fit snugly against the body, but should not be too tight.
- Circumference under bust
Measure the circumference under the bust just below the bust line, at rib height.
- Place the tape measure directly under your breasts.
- Ensure that the measuring tape is snug against your body and positioned evenly.
- The difference between the bust measurement and the underbust measurement
To find the right size, measure your underbust and bust, then calculate the difference and compare it with our suggested measurements below.
- XS difference between bust and underbust measurements: 7-10 cm
- S difference between bust and underbust measurements: 10-13 cm
- M difference between bust and underbust measurements: 13–16 cm
- L difference between bust and underbust measurements: 16–19 cm
- XL difference between bust and underbust measurements: 19-22 cm
- XXL difference between bust and underbust measurements: 22–25 cm
- Waist circumference
Measure your waist circumference at the narrowest point:
- Find the natural indentation in your torso (between your lower ribs and hips) – this is your waist circumference.
- The measuring tape should be parallel to the ground and lie lightly against the skin.
- Hip circumference
This measurement, i.e. hip circumference, is particularly important when choosing the bottom part of a swimsuit:
- Stand upright with your legs together.
- Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your hips and buttocks, where the top of your pelvic bones are located. The most common mistake is measuring too high, just below the waist, which later makes the swimsuit uncomfortable.
- Growth
To measure height:
- Stand barefoot against the wall, straighten your back and look straight ahead.
- Use a ruler or book to mark the highest point of your head, then measure the distance from the floor.
Accurate height measurements will help you choose the right size swimsuit.
Choosing a swimsuit that suits your style and preferences
There are no rules about what swimsuit you „should” wear. The most important thing is what makes you feel comfortable! If you are seeking inspiration, here are a few suggestions:
- If you like to emphasise your waist – opt for outfits with a high or higher waistline and a belt at the waist.
- If you value classic elegance – One-piece swimsuits and high-waisted swimwear bottoms are a comfortable and stylish solution, also for lovers of water activities.
- If you want to emphasise your bust – underwired bras, front-tie bikinis or push-up styles can add lift.
- If you adore the retro vibe – High-waisted knickers will emphasise your curves and add style.
There is no such thing as the „perfect” swimsuit – choose one that you feel comfortable in!
How to choose a swimsuit that suits your figure?
There is no such thing as a single „ideal” body type – everyone has a different body shape, and the costume you choose should depend solely on your taste. If you are looking for inspiration, here are a few suggestions:
- If you want to emphasise your waist – swimwear will be an excellent choice with ties at the waist. They will also work well high-waisted swimsuits, which emphasise the proportions of the figure and add a retro style.
